Is there a way in to flip this behavior?
As in, I mostly revisit existing websites when I type, I rarely want to search the web.
I would like the suggestion to be first, and the search trigger last. Is it possible?
Can't find anything relevant on this broken web anymore 😅

@kbal@fedia.io avatar

Removing all that search-related crap from the url bar UI is among the many things that can be done to improve Firefox with css: https://github.com/Aris-t2/CustomCSSforFx

I think it's in the options under "result menuitem settings".

(and ) begins phasing-out Manifest v2.

https://blog.chromium.org/2024/05/manifest-v2-phase-out-begins.html

This means, among other things, that uBlock Origin is about to be disabled in Chrome. Google will choose a different extension to recommend but it can not be as effective as Origin.

Following 's example, may I instead recommend you switch to .

Firefox will continue to support Manifest v2, and consequently uBlock Origin and other extensions that can not be implemented with Manifest v3.

Happy browsing.

Sometimes I need to watch a video on youtube.

Even if I quickly go fullscreen, there's enough time to be enticed by the algorithmically-addictive video on the side menu.

What browser magic can I most simply implement to hide the side menu?

kbal ,
@kbal@fedia.io avatar

There's an extension called "Redirector" which can pretty easily redirect links to Youtube videos to an Invidious instance of your choice instead with a rule like .*youtube.com/watch\?v=(.*) -> https://invidious.flokinet.to/watch?v=$1 (set it to pattern type "regular expression" if you use that one.)

It's strange that the Invidious UI is so much better, but until Google improves their version I feel justified in doing this.

why does @firefox have trackers like Adjust in it? that's rubbish from a browser that is supposed to be privacy and user friendly

I recommend LibreWolf instead of Firefox

d_k_bo ,

FIY, the @firefox that you tagged is actually the lemmy community !firefox. If you mention the community on mastodon, it is rendered like a new post on lemmy. This looks weird and feels spammy for many lemmy users.

The current version of is 125.0.2 is still stuck at version 124.0.1 & from is at 124.2.
Not sure, why both of them are not getting any further updates? Have they already given up? Time to switch back to vanilla ?

Giving @librewolf a try. I like the idea of a browser specifically hardened against browser fingerprinting and tracking. Runs all of my existing Firefox plugins with no problems

nick ,

I used it for a whole bit hated having to login to my sites every time I reopened the browser. Also 1Password didn’t work with it.

Maybe someday I’ll give it another shot but for now Firefox is ok with me

Why on earth doesn't Firefox on android properly support navigate.share, IE it won't send across the text property and if you don't put a URL in there it just sends blank, even though the .canShare returns true. You can see various bugs raised and closed about this, a major reason to make people not use the browser and I just can't see why?

I still adore this screenshot.

Also, some interesting @thunderbird trivia: In 2004, blazing fast internet access wasn't nearly as widespread as it is now, so Mozilla offered to send installation CD-ROMs to users for $5.95.

Everytime I want to love @firefox , I realize that it doesn't support View Transitions API 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

joyjoy ,

Edge is chrome.

Midnitte ,

Also doesn’t seem like it’s feature complete.

The View Transitions API doesn’t currently enable cross-document view transitions, but this is planned for a future level of the spec and is actively being worked on.
